A new cypher has been revealed ahead of Royal Ascot which takes place next week at the Berkshire racecourse.
Featuring on the 2023 racecard is the new cypher which jointly reflects both King Charles and Queen Camilla.
During the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, her personal cypher was carried on the racecard, which can be purchased by racegoers each day for £7.
For the first Royal Meeting of the new reign, both The King and his Consort are represented by use of this cypher.
Taking to social media, the official Royal Ascot page tweeted: “We are delighted to unveil the racecard cover for the opening day of Royal Ascot 2023, the first displaying the joint cypher of Their Majesties The King & Queen.”
Both the King and Queen have individual cyphers which were revealed last year by the College of Arms.
The joint cypher is similar in design to that of Queen Camilla’s emblem, but with the addition of a swirling C to represent The King.
This is the first time in 70 years that a new cypher has been carried at Royal Ascot.
The joint nature of the cypher reflects the fact that both King Charles & Queen Camilla are registered owners of the royal racehorses.
When Queen Elizabeth II died last September, The King inherited all of her horses.
However in February, Queen Camilla was added onto the ownership details, meaning she is now co-owner alongside The King.
The five-day racing event gets underway on Tuesday, with King Charles and Queen Camilla set to be strongly represented with runners.
According to The King’s racing and bloodstock adviser, John Warren, Their Majesties could have as many as eight runners across the meeting.
