I can’t unsee Harry and Meghan’s baby dance video – shameless Sussexes must do 1 thing now | Royal | News

Well, on the list of things I was not expecting to see today, this has to top them. Is there a full moon I don’t know about? Has a rogue AI virus finally taken over the internet? Have I been slipped some of Harry’s magic mushrooms? Apparently not! After spitting out my coffee and rubbing my eyes until they’re red, I realised that no, this isn’t a cheese-induced fever dream.

I – along with a now totally baffled and dumbstruck nation – have indeed just witnessed Meghan Markle twerking and dropping to the floor as she dances to ‘Baby Mama’ whilst trying to induce labour with Princess Lilibet four years ago. And not only that – Harry in a hoodie got in on the action too, shimmying across the screen during the ditty that she has just posted on Instagram to mark their daughter’s fourth birthday.

She said: “Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates…so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work – there was only one thing left to do!”

What on earth will Princess Kate and Prince William say?!

Listen, I’m no prude. But, for the love of God, shouldn’t some things remain private? Especially for the couple who have talked about the importance of privacy more than any living creature on the planet. I mean, you wouldn’t have caught me dancing like this before I gave birth to my children (namely because my mind was less on content creation and more on running down the hospital corridor, bare-bottomed, demanding an epidural I never got…).

Sharing the clip in this way is kind of – to use an old-fashioned phrase – uncouth. It’s certainly not befitting of royals, which is perhaps exactly her point? And if that is the case then Meghan, pick a lane and do us all a favour and ditch the royal titles, rather than shamelessly using them to promote your lifestyle brand.

I’m sure there’ll be millions of fans who see this as just a little bit of fun between husband and wife – and if that’s what gets you through childbirth, then fair play. But to me – if I’m being brutally honest – it just seems a bit desperate. It’s reminiscent of celebs or influencers who need a bit of a profile boost to get the public onside. Robbie Williams was a case in point, famously posting a clip of him dancing to one of his own tunes whilst his wife, who was in labour, fumed.

Next time Meg? Enjoy the moment, but keep the cringey vids where they belong: on your iPhone. Or perhaps just don’t press record at all.
