With the Barbie film set to premiere on 21 July 2023, the world is abuzz with discussion of the iconic doll. And few Barbie dolls have been as popular as the Queen Elizabeth II doll released in 2022.

In honour of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, Mattel released a Queen Elizabeth II doll. The £95 doll sold out immediately, with retailer John Lewis sharing that its stock was sold out in three seconds. It also sold out in less than a day at both Amazon and Target in the US.

The regal doll is dressed in an ivory evening gown paired with a blue sash with two honours and another order at her hip, as well as a tiara modelled on Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara (which the then-Princess Elizabeth wore on her 1947 wedding day), and a necklace and earrings. The box is inspired by the throne room at Buckingham Palace and is ideal for display.

The Queen Elizabeth II is not the only royal Barbie doll. In 2005, Mattel created a Women of Royalty series that includes Queen Marie Antoinette, Empress Elisabeth ‘Sisi” of Austria, Empress Josephine of France, and Queen Elizabeth I.

In 2011, a matching set of Prince William and Catherine Middleton dolls were released to mark the royal wedding. A Grace Kelly collection in 2011 also included three different dolls inspired by Princess Grace of Monaco.

The Queen Elizabeth II Barbie doll is currently available for purchase on the Mattel website.
