How King Charles III will spend the first anniversary of his accession – Royal Central

It will be a poignant day, tinged with sadness and The King will spend the first anniversary of his accession to the throne privately.

His Majesty will pass the day in Aberdeenshire. His base there, Birkhall, is on the Balmoral estate. Queen Elizabeth II died in the main house at Balmoral.

Buckingham Palace says King Charles will mark the moment ”quietly and privately”.

The King took the throne on September 8th 2022 on the death of Queen Elizabeth II. His Majesty was at Balmoral when Her Late Majesty passed away there at 3.10pm. His reign began at that very moment.

King Charles is following the example of his late mother who always spent the anniversary of her own accession privately. Elizabeth II passed the anniversary, February 6th, at Sandringham, the place where her own father, George VI, died.

It’s also been confirmed that there will be no public memorial event for Queen Elizabeth II on the anniversary of her death.

However, a permanent national memorial for Her Late Majesty will be created in due course.
