Queen Camilla has said The King is doing ”extremely well” in her first comments since his cancer diagnosis.

Her Majesty was asked about her husband’s health as she arrived at Salisbury Cathedral for a special recital celebrating the work of three local charities.

The Queen said King Charles is ”doing extremely well under the circumstances” and added ”We are very touched by all of the letters and messages the public have been sending from everywhere. That’s very cheering.”

The special musical evening saw hundreds come together in the cathedral to enjoy a concert. Among them were representatives of the trio of organisations who were at the centre of the evening.

Queen Camilla met many of those working for the charities. Wiltshire Bobby Van offers at home security for vulnerable people in the area including those suffering domestic abuse. It also supports older people and those with disablities.

Also being celebrated was Youth Action Wiltshire which provides targeted support for young people facing challenges as well as for young carers. The Wiltshire Air Ambulance, which provides emergency medical support in the area, was the other charity whose work was marked at the event.

Queen Camilla has had a packed diary in the last ten days, taking on a string of engagements once King Charles was home from hospital where he was treated for an enlarged prostate. During his treatment, further tests were carried out which led to the cancer diagnosis. The Queen was at His Majesty’s side as he travelled from Sandringham to London to begin treatment and again after they left the capital following its completion.

It’s understood that Queen Camilla ended up spending six hours on the road to complete her Salisbury engagement after her plans to travel by air were cancelled.
