Good Morning Britain rocked by Ofcom complaints after guest’s attack on the Royal family

ITV breakfast hit Good Morning Britain has been rocked by a series of Ofcom complaints over one guest’s outburst and verbal attack on the Royal Family.

The popular show has come under fire over words said by Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu during a discussion on the Royal Family earlier this month.

Dr Shola slammed the Royal Family and sparked fan fury over some of her comments.

The outburst has since led to a number of viewers calling Ofcom over the incident.

Ofcom, the media watchdog, confirmed it had received 52 complaints over the broadcast.

Whilst appearing on the show, Dr Shola insisted that the Royals were not “a source of inspiration” for anybody as she took a series of digs at the family and the King’s Coronation.

Speaking on the programme, she said: “Listen, slimming down the monarchy as a sign of modernity is an insult to our intelligence.

“Not only is this pale, stale and predominantly male, it sends a powerful message of maintaining the hierarchical divide of class, race, wealth and privilege.

“A Royal Family is the face of the British monarchy, an institution that symbolises the entrenched structural inequalities that have placed British subjects in a chokehold of, you know, peasant mentality and servitude.”

Dr Shola then added: “In fact, King Charles had the audacity to invite members of the public to swear and allegiance to him when he’s the one that should be giving an oath of service to us-“

This comments forced show host Susanna Reid to step in as she defended the King and his comments that he made as part of the Coronation proceedings.

Susanna said to Dr Shola: “He did during the ceremony, he said he’d serve, not be served…”

Dr Shola was then asked if she plead allegiance during the Coronation celebrations to which she fiercely responded: “Hell to the no!”

She then said:  “Queen Elizabeth could have avoided scrutiny, transparency, accountability, but her successors are not going to benefit from the same.”

Dr Shola has previously courted controversy on the show after a showdown with Piers Morgan.

It comes after ITV received an overwhelming amount of complaints over its coverage of the Coronation ceremony.

More than 4,000 Ofcom complaints were made after Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh’s “terribly white” Coronation rant.

The exact figures mean it is Ofcom’s most complained-about moment so far this year.

During the coronation Adjoa had said: “We have gone from the rich diversity of the Abbey to a terribly white balcony.”
