Meghan Markle is reportedly “furious” as she claims that she has “different rules” to follow than other members of the Royal Family. Since departing from the Royal Family in 2020 after a two-year spell, Meghan has come under fire for her media appearances.

One royal expert drew a comparison between Meghan and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, who has had a particularly prominent media profile this year.

Alongside her husband, Meghan has released two Netflix documentaries, one covering the so-called “Megxit” and the other focused on the Invictus Games.

The pair have also given several tell-all interviews to the press, most notably their interview with American TV star Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

The Duke of Sussex, meanwhile, published his bombshell memoir Spare in January 2023.

The Sussexes have come under criticism for their increasingly personal attacks on the remaining Royal Family and for sharing intimate details of their time with the Firm.

However, not all royals have received the same treatment.

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has appeared on TV shows promoting her books in recent months without backlash.

According to royal commentator Neil Sean, this “really riles Meghan”.

Speaking to GB News, he said: “The thing that really riles Meghan is that Fergie pops up on things like the ITV daytime show This Morning, Loose Women and billing herself as the Duchess of York, selling books and possibly doing adverts all under the Royal Family.”

He added: “Meghan and Harry seemingly don’t understand why it’s a different rule for her.”

It comes as experts warn that 2024 will be a “make or break” year for the Sussexes.

Facing a contract cancellation from Spotify, and an £8.7m drop in donations to their charity Archewell Foundation, the pair seem to be in the doldrums.

Relations between Harry and Meghan and the Firm are currently said to be at “rock bottom” following the release of Omid Scobie’s Endgame in December.

However, Meghan is adamant that 2024 will be a good year for her and her husband.

Speaking at the Power of Women event in Los Angeles last November, she claimed: “We (Harry and Meghan) have so many exciting things on the slate”.
