King Frederik of Denmark marked another royal first of his reign as he opened the royal hunt in Denmark.

King Frederik began the first King’s Hunt of the season at the Gludsted Plantation with Royal Hunter Master Jens Bjerregaard Christensen leading the official orientation.

The royal hunting season in Denmark opens on 1 October and goes into the middle of January.

The King was joined by several representatives from the municipality, the region, the Danish Hunting Association, as well as community and business organisations.

Gludsted Plantation is a government property that is run by the Palsgård Forest District. Located in central Jutland, it is the largest spruce tree plantation in the country covering 3,500 hectares.

King Frederik looked happy to be attending the hunt, as he cheerfully greeted attendees as everything began. He chose a casual look of a white collared shirt, a bright orange jumper, and a black jacket. He completed his look with a brown hat.

The tradition has come under fire in the last decades, with many asking why the Royal House continues on the tradition of hunting animals.

Queen Mary was not at the hunt. She is currently in Australia with Princess Josephine for a private vacation.
