An ex-royal butler has described Prince Harry as being “difficult” to work with, as he talks about his experience working with the royal.
Commenting on the scathing article produced by Vanity Fair last month, Paul Burrell gave a brutal 10-word comment about the Duke of Sussex, saying: “I know from first-hand experience how difficult Harry can be.”
As reported by Ephraim Hardcastle in the Daily Mail, the ex-butler added: “I take this article as pretty factual.”
Prince Harry once famously described Mr Burrell as “milking” his mother, the late Princess Diana’s legacy.
Writing in his bombshell memoir, Spare, he said: “He was milking her disappearance for money. It made my blood boil.”
Mr Burrell served as the Princess’ butler until her death in 1997, and regularly describes himself as her “best friend”.
He released a series of private revelations in his book ‘A Royal Duty’ in 2003 – which led Harry and William to release a statement accusing him of “a cold and overt betrayal”.
However, in response, Mr Burrell welcomed the suggestion of meeting with the princes to justify his book and tell them about parts of their mother’s life they had not witnessed, adding: “I’d love to give them a piece of my mind.”
The ex-royal butler has also shared his thoughts on the Sussexes and their Hollywood lifestyle after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
He said: “Harry and Meghan have a very privileged lifestyle. Harry has always had that and Meghan has long aspired for it. But now they share that lifestyle.”
Prince Harry is currently in Vancouver, Canada for the Invictus Games which is set to complete on February 16.
Although the Duke of Sussex, 40, is no longer a working royal, the prince continues to be in charge of the Invictus Games organisation, which he launched in 2014 after serving in Afghanistan.
As well as being an opportunity for men and women who serve in the armed forces and veterans to come together and enjoy sports competitively, the Invictus Games Foundation also helps people who were injured in conflict to move forward and focus on their recovery and future.
While the Invictus Games is Harry’s own project, Meghan Markle attended the first few days of the event before flying back to California to be with her two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
