The Danish Royal Family hosted Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia on his State Visit to Denmark on this day in 1954, 70 years ago, during his Tour of Europe following a State Visit to the United Kingdom, to Greece, to The Netherlands, and to Sweden.
King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark received Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and members of his family at Amalienborg Palace after a Procession from Copenhagen Central Station, later appearing on the Palace Balcony.
In the evening, King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid (wearing the Danish Emerald Parure) hosted a State Banquet in honour of Emperor Haile Selassie at Christiansborg Palace, where they were photographed alongside the Duke of Harar, the Heir to the Ethiopian Throne.
Following a Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, Emperor Haile Selassie hosted a Return Banquet in honour of King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid (wearing the Pearl Poiré Tiara and Crown Diamond Parure) and members of the Danish Royal Family.
King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid undertook a State Visit to Ethiopia in 1970.
