King Olav V of Norway and Dagny Haraldsen announced the Engagement of Crown Prince Harald of Norway and Sonja Haraldsen on this day in 1968, following a nine year wait due to King Olav’s reservation over his heir marrying a commoner. The couple got married later that year, having two children; Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Märtha Louise, before their Accession to the Throne in 1991.
