The Duchess of Edinburgh showed her sweet side as she had a playful interaction with young children after the Armistice Service at the National Arboretum on November 11.

Sophie, 59, attended the commemorations in Staffordshire on a solo trip without her husband, Prince Edward, marking two minutes of silence across the UK.

A clip shared on TikTok shows her crouched down chatting to youngsters, with an adult softly explaining “This was the lady that came in the helicopter”.

Sophie, who kindly acknowledges the comment says to the children: “I’m about to go back in my helicopter as well! Will you wave at the helicopter?”

She remarked: “It’s going to take off in about five minutes. You might see it go up in the sky. Are you going to give it a big wave?”

The clip has gained over 6,000 likes and has been watched over 140,000 times. Royal fans have commented on the kind-hearted and “lovely” interaction between Sophie and the young children.

A TikTok user wrote: Met her once She has such a lovely aura about her. Genuinely a lovely lady.”

Another said: “She’s so down to earth. Lovely lady.”

One user commented on the Remembrance service events: “I just love her. I also LOVE Princess Catherine and also their relationship. These two women are jewels to the Royal Family.”

The engagement comes a day after Sophie supported Princess Kate and stood alongside her on the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to watch the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph.

At the Armistice Service on November 11, the Duchess was dressed in an all-black outfit as a mark of respect, including a V-neck style button-up Armani coat, with matching suede boots, and a black hat.

To mark the sombre occasion, Sophie sported a spray of three poppies pinned to her regimental brooch from The Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers – of which she is Colonel-in-Chief.

During her appearance, the 59-year-old read an extract from For The Fallen, a poem by Lawrence Binyon, before observing the two-minute silence at 11am.

Sophie also laid a wreath at the Armed Forces Memorial alongside representatives from the Government and the military.

As Sophie walked around to view the names of servicemen and women on the armed forces memorial, she looked teary-eyed, and the Duchess also took time to speak to veterans after the service.

The service in Staffordshire was carried out by Reverend Malcolm Mcnaughton, Bishop of Repton, and Reverend Vic Van Den Bergh, honorary chaplain to the arboretum.
