The Duchess of Edinburgh is known to share a sweet bond with the Prince and Princess of Wales’ three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, as well as their two children, live very close to the Waleses in Windsor.
Both families have also spent years dedicating their time to their royal duties and responsibilities.
Sophie, who is mother to Lady Louise Windsor and James, the Earl of Wessex, has often been seen interacting with the three young royals at royal events.
The Duchess has always been on hand to offer her support to the young royals, even seen comforting Prince George at the late Queen’s funeral last year.
Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended the late Queen’s state funeral in London last September.
At one point, Sophie could be seen placing a supportive arm around George as the young royal said a final farewell to his late great-grandmother.
The sweet gesture was highlighted on social media, with many royal fans praising Sophie’s kind nature.
Taking to social media, one user wrote: “This picture is beautiful…”
Another wrote: “[Sophie’s] such [a] lovely woman”
Following the emotional service, both George and his sister could be seen looking over towards Sophie for an indication of when to bow.
It has previously been noted that the Prince and Princess of Wales have been inspired by Sophie’s parenting and how she, and Edward, have raised their two children.
In her book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, author Katie Nicholl wrote: “Kate is said to admire the way Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, are raising their children in the bosom of the Royal Family but prepared for life in the real world.”
Body language expert Judi James also previously claimed that Sophie and Kate appear to be “best friends” and share a “strong bond” with one another.
Speaking of their appearance at Ascot back in June, Ms James said: “Kate and Sophie’s faces light up when they met and Kate seemed to use a delighted smile of amused friendship as they chatted together.”
She added: “[Kate has] always shown strong bonding with Sophie but watching the pair at Ascot might just have cemented them as ‘best friends’ in the Royal Family”.
