Loose Women star Denise Welch first revealed that she had rowed with Prince Andrew back in 2019 and has since made her disdain for the royal very clear.

The ITV star, who will play the late Queen in a new concert version of Diana the Musical tonight, was unhappy with the “disrespectful” things Prince Andrew had set about his late sister-in-law Princess Diana.

Recalling the clash on Loose Women, she said at the time: “I had dinner with Prince Andrew many years ago.

“It wasn’t just me and him, there were about twenty of us,” she explained. “I was there as a patron of a charity.

“We were told not to speak about Princess Diana as it was very soon after her death but Andrew was very keen to talk about her.

“I loved her like the rest of the country and he was very disrespectful and saying things he shouldn’t about Princess Diana.”

Denise went on to admit she didn’t mince words as she gave the royal a piece of her mind, continuing: “I had had a couple of drinks and all I can say he got up to leave, put his hand on my then husband’s should and said ‘rather you than me'”.

“I did tell him how I felt – I was very very cross.”

This wasn’t the last time Denise made her feelings about Prince Andrew known, as a year later in July 2021 she told her fellow panellists: “Anyone who watches this show will know, historically, that I’m no fan of Prince Andrew.

“He’s the one Royal I’ve had a couple of run-ins with. I’m not a fan, I’m just not. He started to say things that really, really upset me – things that were, to me, very disrespectful with somebody he shouldn’t have been sharing this information with.”

Then in January 2022, Denise once more described her “personal beef” with Prince Andrew, which left her feeling “upset”.

“I’ve spoken about this before,” she began. “I have had personal beef with Prince Andrew.

“I’ve met him on a few occasions. He really, really upset me once in the way that he spoke about his late sister-in-law Diana with such disdain.

“It was in front of a group of people such as me who he didn’t know from a bar of soap. I was horrified by it because it wasn’t really long after.

“I had no skin in the game, except for someone that loved Diana from afar,” she added. “I was just horrified by it and I never liked him.”

The new concert version of Diana the Musical is set to dazzle audiences this evening, as it comes to the Eventim Apollo for one night only.

The musical, which follows the life of the late Princess of Wales, comes from writers David Bryan and Joe DiPietro and is directed by Owen Horsley.

Taking on the roles of the two Dianas will be Kerry Ellis (Wicked, Anything Goes) and Maiya Quansah-Breed (original cast member of Six), while Denise will play the role of the Queen.
