Composed of an oval turquoise surrounded by ten diamonds, suspended from a versatile cluster of Diamonds, which can be lengthened with a longer row of diamonds. The exact origin of the Earrings is unknown, but they, along with a Turquoise and Diamond Stomacher Brooch, are thought to come from Empress Catherine the Great of Russia, possibly entering the Swedish Royal Vaults through her great-great-great-great-granddaughter, Queen Victoria, or through her daughter-in-law, Crown Princess Margareta, who was a great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter of Catherine the Great through her mother.
Crown Princess Margareta’s only daughter, Princess Ingrid, inherited the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau among many more magnificent Turquoise Jewels after her mother’s untimely death in 1920.
Queen Ingrid rarely wore the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau or pieces from her extensive collection of Turquoises, though there was a notable appearance in the 1960s.
Queen Ingrid notably loaned the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau and pieces of the Turquoise Parure to her elder daughter, Crown Princess Margrethe, also nicknamed ‘Daisy’, most notably for the British State Visit to Denmark in 1957 and a Banquet held by the British Export Council at the Hotel D’Angleterre in Copenhagen in 1964, as well as being worn with Queen Alexandrine’s Diamond Drop Tiara for the Wedding Ball of Prince Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Sophia of Greece in 1962 and Princess Benedikte’s Pre-Wedding Gala in 1968.
Queen Ingrid also loaned the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau and Turquoise Earrings and Brooch to the Swedish Madeleine Tengbom, the grandmother-in-law of her daughter Princess Benedikte, for the Wedding in 1968.
After Queen Ingrid’s death in 2000, the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau and Turquoise Jewels were among the jewels, which included the Baden Palmette Tiara, inherited by her elder daughter, Queen Margrethe II, who has worn them for several Galas in various configurations, particularly the Stomacher has been worn separately, as a pendant, and as brooches.
In 2022, Queen Margrethe gave the Turquoise Earrings and Corsage Brooch to the then Crown Princess Mary for her 50th Birthday, with the earrings being debuted for the Confirmation of Princess Isabella of Denmark in 2022.
The Turquoise Earrings and Brooch were worn by Crown Princess Mary for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Crown Princess Mary also wore the the Turquoise Earrings for King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Golden Jubilee Gala at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre in 2023.
After becoming Queen, the Turquoise Earrings and Ring were worn by Queen Mary at a Reception for Guests from Ærø Municipality on the Royal Yacht Dannebrog in Ærøskøbing Harbour.
While Queen Margrethe II gifted the Turquoise Daisy Bandeau to her granddaughter, Princess Isabella of Denmark, on her 18th Birthday, Queen Mary loaned the antique Turquoise Earrings for the Gala Portraits. There is no doubt they will be worn for years to come!
