Crown Princess Victoria was surrounded by family as she celebrated her 47th birthday on Sunday.
Sweden’s future queen traditionally celebrates her birthday at Solliden Castle on Öland, which is the summer residence of the Swedish Royal Family. There, she was joined by husband, Prince Daniel, and her two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.
The wider Swedish Royal Family was also on hand to celebrate Crown Princess Victoria.
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia headed the family gathering, with the King leading public cheers for his eldest daughter and heir.
Victoria’s siblings and their families were there, too: Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, and their three sons Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, and Prince Julian, attended; as did Princess Madeleine, Christopher O’Neill, and their three children, Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas, and Princess Adrienne.
First, Crown Princess Victoria met members of the crowds gathered outside Solliden as the children’s choir from Borgholm’s Cultural School sang songs.
Afterwards, Crown Princess Victoria and her family took a carriage ride through the streets of Borgholm to the castle ruins where the Victoriadagen Concert took place. Performers included Edda Magnason, Molly Hammar, Albin Lee Meldau, Olivia Lobato and Lena Philipsson.
The Victoriadagen Concert doubles as a televised fundraiser for the Crown Princess Victoria Fund, which was set up by RadioAid to support charities and associations that work with children with disabilities or chronic illnesses.
The Victoria Award is also presented on the Crown Princess’s birthday. Each year since 1979, the first year she was designated Crown Princess, a Swedish athlete receives the award for exemplary performance.
This year’s recipient was Isabelle Haak, a volleyball player who has won numerous Swedish and World Championships.
A video uploaded to the Swedish Royal Court’s Instagram account shows Haak playing an impromptu game of volleyball with Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.
The Crown Princess’s birthday is a flag day in Sweden and also merits a 21-gun salute. The salute was fired from Stockholm, Karlskrona, Gothenburg, Härnösand and Boden.
