Happy Birthday to Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, who turns 51 today! The once controversial single mother set to be the future Queen of Norway, who is now suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, after featuring all of her Jewels last year, we are focusing on her Ruby Crescent Brooch!

The striking Ruby and Diamond Crescent Brooch is pierced with an arrow on which there is a pearl surrounded by diamonds (which is similar but not identical as the above brooch). The provenance is unknown, but it was reported to be an engagement gift from Queen Sonja.
Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoiby first wore the Ruby and Diamond Crescent Brooch for a Press Conference outside the Royal Palace of Oslo in August 2001, just a few days before her Wedding to Crown Prince Haakon.
In the early years of her marriage, Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore the Ruby and Diamond Crescent Brooch periodically, most notably on a visit to Russia in 2003, and well as for the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo later that year.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit has primarily worn the Ruby and Diamond Crescent Brooch to hold up a ribbon on her traditional bunad during the Norwegian Constitution Day celebrations, most notably in 2009, 2011, and 2017.
These days, Crown Princess Mette-Marit continues to wear the Ruby and Diamond Crescent Brooch on her traditional bunad and later puts it on her coat, like she has for Constitution Day in 2023, and most recently for Constitution Day in 2024, There is no doubt we will continue to see the Brooch worn for years to come!
