Prince Edward first visited Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College to meet with Duke of Edinburgh Scheme participants and try his hand at baking. He helped students bake pastries to donate to two local food charities while hearing about the skills they learned from the program.

Several students shared more about the impact that the award scheme has had on their lives. Veronica, a DofE participant, explained,

It was brilliant to meet HRH The Duke of Edinburgh today and show him the incredible difference that the DofE is making to young people in Brighton and Hove. I found my DofE expeditions challenging, but I made lots of friends and was able to motivate everyone to work together.

The Duke then stopped by the Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club’s Elite Performance Centre. He was able to meet with several academy players who are also working on completing their DofE award.

Finally, the Prince visited Boulder Brighton to meet with local students who are working on bouldering skills for the physical section of the award.

The Duke of Edinburgh has worked with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme since 1988; in 2015, he was named as Chair of Trustees, and in 2023, he became the patron.
