A late 19th century Diamond Tiara, of pear-, cushion-shaped, old- and rose-cut diamonds in silver and gold, from the 1890s, in a fitted case stamped Lambert Jewellers, Coventry St, London
The Tiara was worn by Fairlie, Viscountess Harberton at the Coronation of King George VI in 1937, where she smuggled in drawing paper to make sketches for a painting that was later in the Royal Collection
According to family lore, she hid some paper in the robe she wore to the coronation so she could make sketches for a painting of the event later.
The family story is that she—she was an imminent artist, very accomplished—so she took a sketchbook into the abbey. We think she stuffed it down her chest (she was obviously very thin) and then she sketched away and then she produced a big oil painting, which is now in the royal collection.”
