The Danish Royal Family celebrated the Christening of Prince Nikolai of Denmark, the eldest grandchild of Queen Margrethe II, in the Chapel of the Fredensborg Palace on this day in 1999, 25 years ago.
Prince Nikolai, eldest son of Prince Joachim was baptised by the Danish Chaplain-in-Ordinary, Christian Thodberg, in the chapel of the Fredensborg Palace. At the christening, the musical work Lys på din vej, composed by Frederik Magle and dedicated to the prince, was performed for the first time.
Prince Nikolai’s godparents were his paternal uncle, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, his maternal aunt Nicola Baird, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, Peter Steenstrup and Camilla Flint.

Prince Nikolai was confirmed at the Fredensborg Palace Church in the presence of all his godparents in 2013.
