Buckingham Palace is said to have been left “furious” after Rishi Sunak snubbed one D-Day event this week.

Rishi sparked outrage over his decision to not attend an important ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day – in order to carry out a pre-recorded televised interview.

Many people have been left infuriated by his decision, including many Conservative Party supporters – but most importantly, the Palace.

According to The Times, Buckingham Palace were left “furious” after King Charles attended, despite being “in pain” from his ongoing cancer treatment.

The publication wrote: “There was also fury at Buckingham Palace, where courtiers pointed out that the King, who is being treated for cancer, was advised not to travel but was determined to do so, despite being in pain.”

Although he was present for the the major Franco-British event at Ver-sur-Mer in Normandy, Rishi chose not to attend the Omaha beach ceremony in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer.

Despite not being attended by the Prime Minister, attendees included Keir Starmer, France’s Emmanuel Macron and US President Joe Biden.

Following news that Rishi had skipped the event in favour of a ITV interview, it was reported on ITV News at Ten that Sunak’s team had been the ones to choose the time and date of the interview.

This is despite the programme not airing until Wednesday next week.

As reported by the Mail, the broadcaster’s UK editor Paul Brand said: “We’ve been asking the Prime Minister for an interview for a while now – we are profiling all the leaders on the ITV Tonight programme.

“Today was the slot that we were offered, we don’t know why. Obviously it is not our choice.

“But he certainly returned from Normandy ready to dive back into the campaign.”

King Charles, who revealed his cancer diagnosis back in February, was in hospital receiving treatment just 24 hours before his D-Day speech.

The 75-year-old had received treatment at a hospital in London on Tuesday, but he was determined to join veterans the following day and “lead from the front.”

King Charles first travelled to Portsmouth on June 5, where he delivered an eight-minute speech.

It has been reported that King Charles was advised by medical professionals to reduce his appearance to just 45 minutes.
