Bizarre food Princess Kate craved when she was pregnant with Prince Louis | Royal | News

During the Princess of Wales’ pregnancy with her youngest child,  Prince Louis, she experienced very strange food cravings, including incredibly spicy foods and curries. Perhaps the most unusual was her craving for thinly sliced pickle on brown toast. To cope with her severe morning sickness, known as hyperemesis gravidarum, it was also reported the Princess also incorporated avocados into her diet.

During a royal visit in 2017, Prince William was even gifted an avocado by a young boy whose mother was experiencing similar symptoms. He remarked, “I’ve never been given an avocado before. That’s really sweet of you. Catherine will love the avocado.”

These cravings and dietary choices highlight how the Princess managed her pregnancy symptoms while maintaining her health and well-being for the pregnancy.

Prince Louis was born on April 23, 2018, in St Mary’s Hospital, London, during the reign of his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Just like his mum, little Louis also has some food preferences which are typically unusual for someone so young. In 2019, Princess Kate revealed to Mary Berry the healthy food that her youngest child loves when discussing what foods they grow at home. She said: “We’ve got carrots, beans, beetroot, a massive favourite, Louis absolutely loves beetroot.”

While many royal fans may find this bizarre, Louis also enjoys food more commonly consumed by his age group including pizza and pasta.

The Wales family, however, often opt for heartier dishes when it comes to cooking dinner. During a royal visit to Lavender Primary School, The Princess of Wales once told Matthew Kleiner-Mann how the family often rustle up a comforting bowl of mac ‘n’ cheese at home, another family favourite.

He said at the time: “She was telling us how much her children love cooking and how they cook for her. They made cheesy pasta the other day. One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in. And they make salads and stuff.”

Princess Kate is well-known for her dedication to a healthy lifestyle, rarely deviating from her clean, protein-centric diet.

Her preference for the “Dukan Diet” has been widely reported, but she avoids two major food groups almost altogether to achieve the best health she can.

While the Princess hasn’t explicitly laid out her regimen, sources suggest that she limits dairy products and carbohydrates in her diet and, when travelling, follows royal protocol by avoiding seafood. The diet emphasises lean proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats while excluding large amounts of carbohydrates and dairy
