King Charles has had a quiet holiday season with Queen Camilla and the rest of his family. However, he is already busy at work behind closed doors.
While at Sandringham Estate, King Charles has continued to work. And while the Court Circular announced public engagements for the Princess Royal and the Duke of Gloucester this week, it had already noted work behind palace doors for The King.
On January 6th, His Majesty received Garry Marsden and Katherine Marsden. Garry is the Visitor Enterprise Manager at Sandringham while Katherine is a Gardener at the estate.
The King invested Mr. Marsden with the Insignia of a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order and Mrs. Marsden with the Royal Victorian Medal (Silver).
The Court Circular also noted a special tradition that was observed on the same day. It was the Feast of the Epiphany and at a service held at St. James’ Palace in London, a gesture was made, in absentia, by The King. Gold, frankincense and myrrh were offered at the service, on His Majesty’s behalf by two of his Gentlemen Ushers.
As well as these separate events, The King continues to receive his red boxes, containing government papers, throughout the Christmas break.
King Charles will be back in London soon to resume public duties. Despite his ongoing cancer treatments, those around him have said that he is fully committed to maintaining a busy schedule this year.
Traditionally, Queen Elizabeth II would remain at Sandringham after the holidays until her the anniversary of her accession, 6 February. Her father, King George VI, died at Sandringham and Her Late Majesty wanted to be at that place on the anniversary of his death.
