Today marks the 55th Anniversary of the Death of Princess Theodora, Margravine of Baden, who passed away on this day in 1969! The magnificent Baden Ruby Tiara was a favourite heirloom of the Duke of Edinburgh’s sister, Princess Theodora, and was most recently worn by her daughter-in-law, Archduchess Valerie.

The Ruby Wreath Tiara, composed of clusters of small rubies set within diamond leaves, the exact origin of the Tiara is unkown but it shares similarities with the Greek Ruby Tiara, which belonged to Princess Theodora’s grandmother, Queen Olga of Greece.
Not long after Princess Theodora of Greece and Denamrk married Berthold, the Margrave of Baden, in 1931, the new Margravine of Baden wore the Ruby Wreath Tiara for a portrait.
Princess Theodora, Margravine of Baden most notably wore the Ruby Wreath Tiara for the Wedding Gala of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Princess Ingrid of Sweden at the Royal Palace of Stockholm in 1935.
The Ruby Wreath Tiara seems to have also been worn by Princess Theodora for the Wedding Ball of Prince Antoine of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and Duchess Elisabeth of Württemberg at Schloss Altshausen in 1958.
More recently, the Baden Ruby Wreath Tiara was worn by Archduchess Valerie, Margravine of Baden at the Wedding Ball of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco in Monte Carlo in 2011.
