As world remembers Elizabeth II, one year on, King Charles and Queen Camilla attend church – Royal Central

The King and Queen have attended a special service at Crathie Kirk at Balmoral on the anniversary of the death of Elizabeth II and His Majesty’s accession.

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at the church on the morning of September 8th 2023.

It was an unexpected appearance by Their Majesties who had long been expected to mark the anniversary privately.

They were joined by his cousins, the Earl of Snowdon and Lady Sarah Chatto. The Earl’s daughter, Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones and Lady Sarah’s sons, Samuel and Arthur Chatto, were with them.

As the anniversary of Her Late Majesty’s death approached, The King released a short address in which he paid tribute to her. His Majesty said ”In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us.”

King Charles added ”I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales have also made a tribute to Her Late Majesty on the anniversary, releasing a personal statement in which they noted ”we all miss you” and accompanying it with images of Queen Elizabeth II with her great grandchildren.

Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral on September 8th 2022 at 3.10pm. She was succeeded immediately by King Charles III who was with her at the time.
