Army announces Princess of Wales set to oversee important military event although palace is yet to confirm – Royal Central

The Princess of Wales is set to take the Colonel’s Review at Trooping the Colour this year.

Her Royal Highness is expected to oversee the parade on June 8th 2024 at Horse Guard’s, exactly a week before The King is due to take the salute at the Sovereign’s Birthday Parade.

Number 9 Company Irish Guards will Troop their Colour this year. The Colonel of the regiment trooping always oversees the final parade before the main event. Catherine is Colonel of the Irish Guards.

It’s the first scheduled engagement to be announced for Her Royal Highness following surgery earlier this year. The Princess is currently recuperating at home after a two week inpatient stay following a major abdominal operation. Kensington Palace has always stated that her home recovery will last until at least Easter.

The attendance at the Colonel’s Review was announced by the British Army. Kensington Palace has yet to confirm the event and it all depends on Catherine’s ongoing recovery from her major surgery.

Although all eyes are on London for the Sovereign’s Birthday Parade, that is actually the third time that the regiment involved has ‘trooped’ their colour. Two weeks before hand, there is the Major General’s Review of the parade followed, a week later, by the Colonel’s review.

Trooping the Colour dates back to the reign of King Charles II but it became a formal celebration of the Sovereign’s birthday in 1748, during the reign of King George II. The decision to hold the parade annually was taken during the reign of King George III.

The British Army website has details on how to obtain tickets for the Colonel’s Review.
