Emeralds might be the birth stone of May but their green hue gives them a Christmas sparkle all of their own. Some of the most stunning emerald creations belong to the royal family of Sweden.
Sweden’s emerald collection may be few, but they make up for it in their beauty. From older pieces to the newest tiara, we take a look at Sweden’s rare emeralds.
There are a large emerald necklace and two brooches that are seen on the Swedish royal ladies that date back several generations. The necklace is an emerald demi-parure surrounded with several diamonds. Both Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria have worn the emerald demi-parure at public events.
The brooches match the necklace with a centre emerald surrounded by diamonds, and Crown Princess Victoria once wore the larger brooch in her hair at the 2012 Nobel Prize Award Ceremony. The smaller brooch was worn on her Order of the Seraphim sash.

Queen Silvia also personally owns an emerald jewelry set that consists of earrings, a necklace and a bracelet. Although no where near as flashy as the older Bernadotte piece, the more subdued emerald set of Silvia’s is still striking.

Of course, the newest emerald piece to the Swedish royal collection is the wedding tiara of Princess Sofia, which was a gift from King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. The tiara was made from an emerald necklace of Queen Silvia’s that had been given to her by a Thai prince, and the jewels were sent back to Thailand to create the tiara in an effort to keep it a surprise for Sofia.

As it is Sofia’s personal tiara, she wears it more often than the others in the Bernadotte vault, and it’s been featured in her official phot
