and the winner may surprise you | Royal | News - Prince Ricardo De La Cerda
Despite being thousands of miles away, the British Royal Family seems to be extremely popular in America. As well as dominating the UK news, the royals are also a popular topic when it comes to the American press.
However, questions have been raised over the years on which royal is the most popular in the US. This has now been revealed in a new YouGov poll which has asked more than 1,000 Americans for their opinions on members of the Royal Family, both past and present. The results were very different to a similar poll conducted in the UK, which saw The Princess of Wales, 43, crowned as the most popular royal.
The new poll saw over 1,000 Americans questioned about who their favourite royal is, with the highest number of people answering Diana, Princess of Wales, who tragically died in a car accident in 1997.
In second place was the late Queen Elizabeth II, followed by The Prince of Wales in third place. The American people then voted The Duke of Sussex in fourth place and surprisingly listed Princess Kate in fifth position.
Meghan Markle was ranked sixth behind Princess Anne, before being followed by King Charles and Queen Camilla, who both ranked low in the popularity list, with the King in eighth place and Camilla in 10th.
Despite moving to the US after quitting royal life in 2020, Prince Harry, 40, was still ranked lower in the US royal popularity charts than his elder brother Prince William, 42.
It is believed William is popular in the US and has a positive relationship with US President Donald Trump. The pair last met in November at the re-opening of the Notre Dame in Paris, with Trump, who was then President-Elect, making his support for the heir to the throne clear. After meeting in the foyer at the residence of the British ambassador, the pair shook hands as Trump gestured to William and said: “Good man, this one”.
