The Danish Royal Court has shared the Official Gala Portraits of Princess Isabella of Denmark, who celebrates her 18th Birthday today!
The Gala Portraits of Princess Isabella of Denmark were taken in the Great Hall of Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg.
On the occasion of HRH Princess Isabella’s 18th birthday on 21 April 2025, official gala portraits of the Princess are being published for the first time. Her Royal Highness was photographed in the Great Hall of Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg.
Princess Isabella is wearing the antique Turquoise Daisy Bandeau and Antique Turquoise and Diamond Earrings with the Order of the Elephant and King Frederik X’s Portrait Order.
Princess Isabella wears the Order of the Elephant in the portraits, a diadem with turquoises and diamonds, and a miniature portrait of the Order of the Elephant of her father, HM the King.
Princess Isabella carries a frame with a painted portrait of her father, the King. The frame is in gold surrounded by 12 white pearls and 12 small diamond crosses with reference to the Order of the Dannebrog. The frame belonged to HM the Queen, who received it after her wedding in 2004. The portrait, painted by the English miniature painter Tom Mulliner, is done in watercolour on a thin slice of mammoth tusk.
In the new gala portraits of HRH Princess Isabella, the Princess wears a diadem with turquoises and diamonds, which is a gift from HM Queen Margrethe on the occasion of Princess Isabella’s 18th birthday on April 21, 2025.
The tiara is a so-called “bandeau”, a headband in French, as the relatively narrow tiara is intended to be worn almost horizontally as a hair band. The tiara is made of gold and adorned with 11 rosettes of daisy-like flowers of decreasing sizes, made of turquoise and diamonds.
The tiara was made in the late 19th century and belonged to Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden. After her untimely death in 1920, her daughter, Princess Ingrid, received the tiara as a confirmation gift and brought it to Denmark upon her marriage to the later Frederik IX.
Like many other pieces of the Royal House’s jewelry, the tiara has multiple functions, as it can be disassembled and used as a bracelet.
The Danish Royal Family celebrated the 18th Birthday of Princess Isabella of Denmark with a Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, after celebrations in Aarhus.
