A royal hug for the new Wimbledon champion as King Felipe of Spain greets Carlos Alcaraz after a famous win – Royal Central

He might just have written his name in the history books of the most famous tennis championship in the world but Carlos Alcaraz appeared overcome as royalty queued up to meet him and celebrate his success.

As he made his way into the Player’s Lounge at Wimbledon, the King of Spain sprung forward to offer a congratulatory hug.

King Felipe couldn’t stop smiling as he chatted with Spain’s latest sporting star.

He then introduced Carlos Alcaraz to Princess Charlotte and Prince George who were standing by to meet the new champion.

The Prince and Princess of Wales also congratulated the number one seed who claimed the famous gilt trophy after a five set win over Novak Djokovic.

The Princess presented the prizes at the end of the competition – she is Patron of the All England Club.

Princess Charlotte was attending the Championships for the first time and appeared to thoroughly enjoy the match which lasted for almost five hours. Her huge cheer at the end hinted that she might have been hoping for a win for Carlos Alcaraz.
