Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco have taken parts in a series of events to pay homage to Nelson Mandela’s on the 10th anniversary of his death.

The Prince and his wife arrived at Théâtre Princesse Grace, where they attended a screening of the movie “Mandela, long walk to freedom”, alongside his eldest daughter, Princess Zenani Mandela-Dlamani, and the producer of the movie, Anant Singh, a friend.

During the screening in the Principality, his daughter delivered a short speech, in which she highlighted her father’s “commitment to equality and peace and the need to continue to draw inspiration from this strength of spirit to resist oppression, to assert justice over inequality, dignity over humiliation, forgiveness over hatred”.

The former South African President had been to the Principality of Monaco numerous times at the invitation of Prince Rainier III and later Prince Albert II, which is why the Nelson Mandela Foundation selected it as the location for this important evening.

The events also received the support of the Fondation Princesse Charlene and the Fondation Prince Albert II, which also supported the gala evening at the Yacht Club de Monaco.

Both Prince Albert and Princess Charlene attended the evening gala, a rare occasion, especially following the Princess’ illness, which has significantly reduced her evening engagements.

Princess Zenani Mandela-Dlamani was born in 1959 as the first child of Nelson Madela’s second marriage to Winnie. She is known as Princess because of her marriage to Prince Thumbumuzi Dlamini of Swaziland, whom she met while studying at Boston University. The Prince is the brother of King Mswati III of Swaziland. Princess Zenani is currently serving as South Africa’s Ambassador to South Korea.
