As Queen Camilla arrived in Germany for the first outgoing State Visit of King Charles III’s reign, her outfit had echoes of the past. For the last outgoing State Visit made by Queen Elizabeth II was to Germany and the new consort seemed to nod to the previous trip on her arrival.

Queen Camilla wore a a pale turquoise coat for her first engagements in Berlin. Her hat was a deeper shade of the same colour and featured a peacock feather. It was reminiscent of the colours worn by Queen Elizabeth II during her last German State Visit when she chose a blue and green combination for a trip to Frankfurt with a hat also trimmed with peacock feathers.

The feather is taken by many to be a sign of royalty and power. Other traditions see it as a symbol of luck, beauty and strength.
