And now Holistic Health and Wellness Coach Philippa Quigley explains why Zara’s new eating habit could potentially boost and benefit our gut health and overall health.
She told Express.co.uk: “Reducing red meat in your diet is believed to help reduce risks of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease and stroke.
“This is due to the high levels of saturated fats it contains, increased inflammation risks and also the fact it can increase the level of ‘bad cholesterol’ in your body.
“Reducing red meat is also good for your gut health, as it is harder to digest and can sometimes cause abdominal discomfort, and play havoc with your bowels!”
The diet expert also noted the environmental impact of such a move as it is believed that if people consumed less meat, it “would positively promote sustainability by reducing greenhouse emissions.”
But she cautioned that there are also arguments that “being a vegan or vegetarian also has environmental issues to consider.”
The wellness coach went on to add that people who give up red meat have to consider their protein and iron sources carefully.
“Protein and iron are fundamental parts of a healthy diet, and if you are no longer sourcing it from an animal you would need to look for plant-based alternatives such as; quinoa, lentils, tofu or tempah.”
She stated: “A healthy diet ultimately is a diverse, wholefood and fresh approach. Therefore, it isn’t necessarily all about going completely plant-based or vegan. A small amount of red meat does give you a good dose of protein, vitamins and minerals – it is more about considering its source.”
“When making decisions such as Zara Tindall’s, it is all about doing what suits your own health the best. With health, it is always about the whole picture of what is going with you and ensuring your overall diet is healthy and diverse.”
