Battle of Waterloo Bicentenary Banquet

Battle of Waterloo Bicentenary Banquet

The Duke and Duchess of Wellington hosted the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall at a magnificent Banquet at Apsley House in London on this day in 2015, 10 years ago, to mark the Bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo.

The Duke and Duchess of Wellington (in the Wellington Tiara and Diamond Earrings) hosted a Banquet for the Battle of Waterloo Bicentenary at Apsley House in London, with the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall (wearing the  Greville Tiara and Greville Festoon Necklace) as the Guests of Honour.

The Duke recreated Wellington’s Waterloo banquet at Apsley House – which he held every year until his death.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall joined the Duke and Duchess of Wellington, Prince Nikolaus von Blucher of Prussia and Prince Charles Bonaparte to visit the battlefield at Waterloo before unveiling the memorial at Hougoumont Farm, along with Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg, Princess Astrid of Belgium and Prince Pieter-Christiaan of Oranje-Nassau.

Meanwhile, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde hosted a reception at the Castle of Laeken for Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg, and for the descendants of the four main commanders of the Waterloo battlefield: Prince Blücher (Prussia), Prince Jean-Christophe Napoléon (France), Prince Pieter-Christiaan of Oranje-Nassau (Netherlands) and the Marquess and Marchioness of Douro (Britain).

In the evening, the Duke and Duchess of Wellington (in Diamond Tassel Earrings) attended a Banquet at the Egmont Palace in Brussels on the eve of the Bicentenary.

On the day of the Bicentenary, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall were joined by the Earl of Wessex, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke and Duchess of Wellington for a National Service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium were joined by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, Prince Nikolaus Furst Blucher von Wahlstatt, Prince Jean-Christophe Napoléon, Duke of Kent, and the Marquess and Marchioness of Douro to attend the Belgian federal government ceremony to commemorate the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo in Waterloo.
