The Princess Royal has fallen victim to Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a fabricated video of her going viral on social media.

The video, which Royal Central has seen, appears to show Princess Anne talking about her sister-in-law, Queen Camilla.

Claims the artificial video makes are that she will “never bow” to Queen Camilla, along with a number of other derogatory remarks.

AI and deep-fake videos are on the rise, with the subjects voice and likeness being imitated by technology, in the aim of promoting misinformation to viewers.

Full Fact, an online fact checking service, has debunked the video and audio.

They spoke to Professor Hany Farid, a specialist in digital forensics and image analysis at the University of California.

He said: “This is a poorly executed fake. The audio is completely disconnected from the video in the parts where you can see Princess Anne.

“In addition, after separating the background music from the voice, I analysed the voice with our models trained to distinguish real from AI-generated voices. These models find traces of AI generation, adding to the evidence.”
