A major family event involving the death of their late grandmother saw the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex put their differences aside and call a temporary truce almost three years ago.
Prince William’s turbulent relationship with Prince Harry has been a major topic of discussion for years and it is believed that the two are still not on talking terms. But William reportedly reached out to Harry in the days of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, asking if Harry and Meghan wished to join him and Princess Kate on the Long Walk in Windsor, for a walkabout to greet well-wishers and meet grieving members of the public, who had gathered to pay their respects to the monarch. It was the first time the four had been together since Harry and Meghan took a step back from their duties as senior royals.
A source told the Daily Mail: “It happened very quickly – remarkable really considering they didn’t see each other in Scotland.”
The publication went on to confirm that it was William’s decision to extend the olive branch to his brother, and “absolutely not” the idea of his father King Charles, as was previously reported.
Both brothers had flown to Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire when they had been informed of the late Queen’s failing health, but they both arrived in Scotland after Queen Elizabeth had died.
Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare, contained claims that he found out about his grandmother’s death via the media and not from his family.
But the royal author Robert Hardman claims Harry’s version of events are not accurate. He insisted the family attempted to contact Harry to discuss the Queen’s health. Hardman wrote: “In his memoir, Spare he suggests that no one had told him and that he was reduced to learning the news from the BBC website as the plane was landing. Not exactly.
“A member of the Palace staff says that the King had been urgently trying to make contact with his younger son. There were repeated attempts to get through to him but no calls were going through because Harry was airborne,’ said the official.”
In 2022, the world was saddened to hear of the death of the late Queen, who held the title as the longest-reigning British monarch, on September 8.
She died at the age of 96 at her much-beloved home of Balmoral, which is located in Scotland. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle happened to be in the UK at the same time as his beloved grandmother’s death.
The couple, who were without their two children, were on a short working trip but extended their visit after learning of the Queen’s declining health.
At her bedside were her son and heir, now King Charles, and her daughter Anne, the Princess Royal, while other members of her close family were en route to be with her.
