The Prince of Wales has landed in Cape Town, South Africa, where he will spend the next four days celebrating his passion project the Earthshot Prize.
Kensington Palace uploaded a new video on X upon Prince William’s arrival and showed bits of the city as it celebrated this week’s events with the caption: “Molweni Cape Town, it’s great to be back in South Africa! What a week ahead we have here for the fourth annual @EarthshotPrize Awards and the @united4wildlife Summit. We can’t wait to share it with you.”
The heir to the throne kickstarted his visit by meeting young environmentalists taking part in the inaugural Earthshot Climate Leaders Youth Programme.
William’s visit will be highlighted by his attendance at the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony on Wednesday, and other related events during the week when five category winners will each receive £1 million to scale up their plans to “repair” the planet. Princess Kate did not join William, and she stayed at home to look after their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Before his visit to the Southern African nation, William said: “Africa has always held a special place in my heart – as somewhere I found comfort as a teenager, where I proposed to my wife and most recently as the founding inspiration behind the Earthshot Prize.”
