Happy Birthday to Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania, who turns 75 years ago! The accomplished Head of the Romanian Royal Family, who has an increasingly official role as a de facto Queen in a Romanian Republic, Her Majesty has worn several splendid Royal Heirlooms, but today, we are featuring her spectacular modern Diamond Suite!

A striking modern Diamond Necklace composed of several diamond pendants, as well as a pair of accompanying earrings, the origin of this suite is unknown, and while we initially suspected that the Necklace was the same one worn by Queen Helen at the Wedding Ball of King Constantine II of Greece and Princess Anne Marie of Denmark in 1964, it appears that this suite was acquired at some point in the 2000s.

In 2010, Crown Princess Margareta wore the Diamond Suite with the Greek Key Tiara for the Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden in Stockholm.

The following year, the Diamond Suite was again paired with the Greek Key Tiara for the Wedding Ball of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco in Monte Carlo.

Crown Princess Margareta also wore the Diamond Suite with Queen Helen’s Fleur-de-Lys Brooch for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Dinner at Buckingham Palace in 2012.

As she began to take an increasing official role in Romania, Crown Princess Margareta wore the Diamond Suite with and without the Greek Key Tiara for a couple of Gala Dinners and a few Official Portraits.

In 2016, the Diamond Suite was again paired with the Greek Key Tiara for  King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 70th Birthday Banquet at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

Most recently, Her Majesty wore the modern Diamond Suite with the Greek Key Tiara and Fleur-de-Lys Brooch for the Wedding Banquet of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan last year, and there is no doubt we will continue to see it worn for years to come!
