Yee-haw! Queen Sofía of Spain lands in Texas to celebrate her country – Royal Central

Queen Sofía of Spain travelled to the United States to look at “Spain Fusion Texas 2023,” which reunites Spanish products with local entrepreneurs.

Her Majesty arrived at the Hotel C. Baldwin, Curio Collection by Hilton, on 15 May and was welcomed by the Spanish General Consul to Houston, Julia Alicia Olmo y Romero, and the Director of Spain Fusion Texas 2023.

The event is hosted inside the hotel, and the former Spanish Queen got a chance to tour the stands where food and hospitality professionals get together to offer the “Foods and Wine from Spain” experience.

The experience belongs to ICEX Spain Trade & Investment and is organised by Vocento Gastronomía in collaboration with Foods and Wine From Spain. The event also includes meetings, panels and tasting experiences with the main exporters of wine, olive oil, cheese, Spanish ham and many more of Spain’s traditional foods.

Her Majesty even met some Spanish chefs that own restaurants in the United States, including Danny Lledó of Washington D.C.’s Xiquet one-Michelin star restaurant, Mat Schuster of San Francisco’s Canela Bistró, and many more.

“Spain Fusion Textas 2023” takes place between 15 and 22 May in the Texan cities of Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and Houston – the latter being the destination of Queen Sofía’s trip.

Her Majesty will also take the opportunity of this trip to attend the presentation of “Portal de Historia Hispánica” (“Portal of Spanish History”) of the Spanish Royal Academy. Before returning to Madrid, King Felipe’s mum will also hand out the “Sophia Prizes for Excellence,” managed by the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, which operates in the United States.

Since becoming Queen, Sofía has been supporting her adoptive country in many different ways, including promoting Spain’s biggest assets (food and tourism) all around the globe.
