The Royal Family of Pahang have been celebrating the Wedding of Prince Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara, the son of the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan (Queen) Azizah, and Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan at the Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan this week, with an Akad Nikah Ceremony, the Istiadat Berinai Ceremony, and finally the Istiadat Bersanding Ceremony.
Following the Akad Nikah Ceremony at the Istana Abdulazizand the Istiadat Berinai Ceremony, Prince Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara, the son of the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan (Queen) Azizah, and Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan had an ‘Istiadat Bersanding’ (Sitting-in-State) Ceremony in the Throne Hall of the Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan, which was attended by the Pahang Royal Family and Dignitaries as well as Sultanah Nur Zahirah of Terengganu. Two more Receptions will be held in Kuala Lumpur next week, as well as another in Yogyakarta the following evening.
Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara and Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan had members of the couple’s families bless their match by putting pandan leaves and scented oils on their hands, followed by Datin Anna, the family’s British secretary, who left the entire Royal Family in tears.
Afterwards, the Royal Family of Pahang joined Guests for a Reception in the garden of the Istana Abdulaziz, which was beautifully decorated, and where the Tengku Arif Bendahara and Tengku Natasya Puteri cut the cake.
Tengku Natasya Puteri wore an Art Deco Tiara belonging to Queen Azizah.
Tengku Arif Bendahara wore a Diamond Chain from Queen Azizah’s collection, most recently worn by his sister, Princess Afzan.
I had been graciously invited to attend the wedding of the Tengku Arif Bendahara and Tengku Natasya Puteri as a guest of Queen Azizah, and it has been an absolute honour.
Queen Azizah of Pahang and I have come upon the conclusion that her Diamond Bandeau Tiara is Queen Mary’s lost Diamond Lozenge Bandeau last worn by Princess Margaret!
The Royal Family of Pahang began the Wedding Celebrations for Prince Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara, the son of the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan (Queen) Azizah, and Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan at the Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan on October 24th.
Prince Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara, the son of the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan (Queen) Azizah, married Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adna, in a akad nikah Ceremony conducted by the bride’s father Datuk Seri Utama Dr Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in the Balai Mahkota of the Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan.
Afterwards, Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adna arrived in a Procession to join Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara for an exchange of gifts.
The akad nikah Ceremony was followed by a Istiadat Perkahwinan Diraja Ceremony. The powdering ceremony is when the couple’s families bless them by putting coloured rice powder and scented oils on their hands.
Tengku Natasya Puteri wore a Diamond Tiara created from a Tiara belonging to the groom’s late grandmother, which has been altered by Queen Azizah.

Following the Akad Nikah Ceremony at the Istana Abdulaziz, Prince Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara, the son of the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan (Queen) Azizah, married Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan had an Istiadat Berinai (Henna Ceremony) Ceremony in the Throne Hall of the Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan.
Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan first walked into the Throne Hall of the Istana Abdulaziz for the Istiadat Berinai Ceremony, when female members of the couple’s families blessed her by putting pandan leaves and scented oils on their hands, as well as henna, a piece of tamarind and salt, and an egg.
Then, Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara arrived into the Throne Hall of the Istana Abdulaziz for the Istiadat Berinai Ceremony which was preformed by male members of both families.
Afterwards, the Royal Family of Pahang joined Guests for a Dinner in the garden of the Istana Abdulaziz, which was beautifully decorated.
Tengku Natasya Puteri wore Queen Aziziah’s Diamond Bandeau enhanced with a few diamond brooches.
Tengku Muhammad Iskandar wore a Diamond Aigrette which has also been worn by Queen Azizah.
