Wedding of Lady Davina Windsor

The extended Royal Family were absent at the Wedding of Lady Davina Windsor and New Zealand-born Gary Lewis in the Chapel Royal at Kensington Palace on this day in 2004, 20 years ago.

Lady Davina Windsor, the elder daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, married New Zealand-born Gary Lewis in the Chapel Royal at Kensington Palace. Lady Davina and Gary Lewis, who was the first person of known Māori descent to marry a member of the royal family, had two children before their divorce in 2018.

The eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Lady Davina Windsor has always shied away from the spotlight. So it is unsurprising that for her 2004 nuptials to New Zealand-born Gary Lewis, she opted for a low-key celebration, with none of the pomp and ceremony of a traditional royal wedding.

Lady Davina chose to marry privately at the chapel of her childhood home at Kensington Palace, with just close family and friends in attendance, and none of the extended Royal Family. Sadly, her 102-year-old grandmother, Princess Alice, was considered too infirm to attend. Princess Anne’s ex-husband, Captain Mark Phillips, was among the guests – as were 36 of Lewis’s family who had made the journey from New Zealand.
