Wedding of Count Carl Bernadotte and Baroness Marianne De Geer

The Swedish Royal Family celebrated the Wedding of Count Carl Bernadotte and Baroness Marianne De Geer at Sankt Jacobs Kyrka in Stockholm on this day in 1915, 110 years ago!

Lieutenant Count Carl Oscar Bernadotte of Wisborg, son of Prince Oscar and Princess Ebba Bernadotte, married Baroness Marianne de Geer Friherrina af Leufsta, daughter of Baron Louis de Geer, Friherre af Leufstra and Baroness Märtha Johanna Fredrika Friherrina Cederström, at Sankt Jacobs Kyrka in Stockholm. The couple had four children before their divorce in 1935.

A society wedding, certainly the most elegant that has been held in the capital for many years, has brightened up the hitherto quiet season. On Monday, March 15, in Jakobs Church in Stockholm, the eldest son of the Prince and Princess Bernadotte, Lieutenant Count Carl Bernadotte of Wisborg, was married to Miss Marianne de Geer, daughter of Baroness Märtha Linder, nee Cederström in her first marriage to Baron Louis de Geer of Leufsta.

The wedding took place at half past three, and long before that, Jakobs- o. Gustaf Adolís-torg and Arsenalsgatan were filled with dense crowds of people who wanted to catch a glimpse of the state that was developing, shining uniforms and radiant toilets.

To the tunes of the wedding march from Lohengrin, the bride and groom entered the richly decorated church. The wedding officiant was the vicar of the Lindhagen Engelbrekt parish. After the wedding, Mayor and Baroness Linder gave a grand dinner at the Grand Hotel, which was also attended by the royal guests, with the exception of the king. In the evening, the newlyweds departed on a wedding trip to Germany and Italy.

The Swedish Royal Family were well represented with Crown Princess Margareta (wearing the Cameo Tiara and Parure) and Princess Ingrid being pictured.

The wedding was attended by The king, the crown prince couple and the duke couple of Vestergötland with their children, as well as the dukes of Södermanland and Nerike had received the invitation to the wedding. And among the other attendees, in addition to the bride and groom’s closest relatives, there was a distinguished group of guests from the aristocracy of the capital. From the diplomatic corps, Danish and American ministers and some attachés were present. The officers of the Life Guards on horseback and the Life Regiment dragoons were all invited.
