Meghan Markle has shared the emotional moment she and Prince Harry met the Invictus Games athletes.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently in Vancouver for the international event, which kicked off today and will run until February 16.

In a series of pictures and videos shared in Meghan’s Instagram stories today, the couple can be seen greeting and hugging with participants in the Canadian city.

The clips also show Meghan, 43, talking to athletes and the pair joining group photos, with the Prince, 40, doing a light-hearted dance before taking his place in one of them.

The Suits actress is also seen offering an attendee a warm embrace. Meghan also had a lively chat with a group of women from Team USA, posing for a picture with them too.

The eight-day sporting event, held for injured military veterans, was started started by Prince Harry in 2014.

The games have been held in London and around the world, including in the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, and Australia, amongst other nations.

Meghan stepped out on stage alongside Harry for the opening ceremony on Saturday and gave a short impromptu speech.

The Duchess said: “I was not planning on speaking tonight, and we just arrived, I don’t know, a couple of hours ago, and I touched Canadian soil and I went, oh, it feels like home.

She then turned to her husband and said: “We are just thrilled to be here, and I would be remiss if I didn’t take the opportunity to introduce someone who means a lot to me.

“And I know he means quite a lot to all of you. You will see him throughout this week.”

She went on: “You will see him at the Games. You will see him probably curling with you, cheering you on.

“He’s in it with you, and you’ll see him through all of those moments. He’ll be there with you,” she added.

Meghan also drew attention to all the hard work behind the scenes needed to make the event possible.

“What you won’t have seen is all of the moments that have happened in the lead-up to these Games, all of the moments where, as you know, with families, the big rush in the morning—getting ready for school, packing the lunch boxes, making breakfast,” she said.

“My husband’s in all of that with us, and then he’ll be on his phone, and Archie will say: ‘Papa, why are you on your phone?’ And he’s like: ‘That’s Invictus. I’m getting ready for Invictus.'”

The pair moved to Vancouver Island in 2020 after stepping down as senior royals, before moving to California, where they are raising their two children, Archie, 5, and Lillibet, 3, as per MailOnline.

Meghan had previously lived in Toronto, where Suits was filmed, for a number of years.

Pop stars Katy Perry, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Nelly Furtado all performed at the ceremony.

The royal couple will spend three nights in the city of Vancouver before heading to the Whistler ski resort for the adaptive winter sports part of the games.
