Prince Harry and Meghan spent three days in Nigeria, promoting the Invictus Games, but one royal expert says the focus was more on Meghan and her Nigerian heritage.
Daily Express US spoke to Dr Pauline Maclaran, Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at Royal Holloway University of London, who said: “The visit seems to have gone exceptionally well with the Sussexes receiving very positive feedback from their participation in various events that have all been pretty high profile.”
The Invictus Games kicked off in 2014, with Harry taking the lead, and is now in its tenth year. Nigeria is considering hosting the games in the near future, inviting Harry to visit as part of negotiations.
Harry and Meghan headed to Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, where they were welcomed with open arms, but possibly Meghan more so than Harry, says Dr Maclaran.
She said: “There seems to have been great delight in Meghan’s revelation that she is 43% Nigerian and fans there are now referring to her as Nigeria’s ‘new princess.’”
“In fact, if anything, this tour has seemed to mostly focus on Meghan, especially when she referred to Nigeria as ‘my country.’”
