King Charles III has made history by asking President Donald Trump to make a second State Visit to the UK but this unprecedented invitation also has a very personal element. For it’s now been revealed that The King wants the US President to join him at Balmoral to talk about how the big trip itself should go.

President Trump is the first elected politician ever to be invited to make two State Visits to the UK. The offer was made at the start of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s meeting with the US leader. As they sat down, in front of journalists, the first thing the PM did was hand over a letter from The King asking the President to make a State Visit.

The letter was signed in a rather personal manner, with the Monarch signing off as ‘Charles’. However, an even more personal touch followed. His Majesty has asked POTUS to join him at Balmoral.

The Royal Family’s private estate in Aberdeenshire is rarely opened up to overseas politicians. And there is an added significance now as it is the place where Queen Elizabeth II, whom the US President greatly admired, died.

King Charles also wants Donald Trump to visit Dumfries House, the estate Charles III saved for the nation.

The details were enclosed in the letter hand delivered by Sir Keir Starmer. Donald Trump briefly showed the letter to the media and a quick zoom soon revealed the very personal invitation.

No dates for any visits have yet been arranged but Donald Trump was quick to say yes to them.
