I, however, also found myself gasping in horror. When did The Royal Family become so old? This is said with absolutely no disrespect whatsoever, but it’s shocking to see how quickly the dynamic of the working royals has changed.
The photograph of the working members of The Royal Family standing in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace was an excellent photo, with all of the people assembled serving their country with pride and dignity.
However, seven of the 11 working royals depicted are over the age of 70.
As admirable as they are, we cannot expect these royals to carry on forever.
What can be done to solve this impending crisis?
Some readers would accuse me of being melodramatic in my choice of words, but there are many hundreds of charities that rely on royal patronages and the support it brings, Princess Anne cannot hold the fort forever.
Whereas King Charles III previously suggested he wants to streamline the monarchy even further, might I suggest bringing some younger royals on board?
At least as a temporary measure until Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis become fully fledged working royals?
The ideal candidate to take up royal duties is surely Lady Louise-Mountbatten Windsor, the eldest child of the Earl & Countess of Wessex.
Nobody has a bad word to say about the 19-year-old, who has a high popularity rating despite her low public profile.
Empathetic, scandal-free and popular, Lady Louise would be the perfect person to take up royal duties, assisting with the workload.
Of course, whether Lady Louise wants to take up royal duties is an entirely different matter.
She has purposely kept a low public profile, having been well protected from the public eye from her parents, Edward & Sophie.
She has also only recently started studying at university, and is no doubt on the way to forging a career for herself.
Nevertheless, she firmly remains the prime candidate for me should the working royals ever decide to expand their ranks.
