Prince Ricardo De La Cerda
The King made the first visit of his reign to Lancaster and he shared some monarchical wisdom with a Second World War veteran and took part in an historic visit during his day out.
King Charles, also the Duke of Lancaster, was greeted by Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Amanda Parker, at the train station before making his way to Lancaster Castle.
Once at the castle, The King took part in a tradition that dates back to 1851. First presented to Queen Victoria in the mid-nineteenth century, His Majesty took part in the Ceremony of the Keys where he received the physical keys to Lancaster Castle.
Afterwards, King Charles met local artisans and makers in the castle to learn more about businesses in the area. Local cheese makers Butlers’ Farmhouse Cheeses were on hand to share some of their products with the king, as was Northern Yarn, a company that produces yarns that specifically support the British wool and textile industry.
The King was also happy to meet veteran Richard Brock again at a reception. He first met the 101 year old veteran last year where he was able to hear about Richard Brock’s experience at D-Day. He shared some life advice with the veteran, recommending he “keep drinking whisky”.
To finish up his busy day, King Charles helped officially open the Whitewell Coronation Woodland Garden, created in honour of his 2023 coronation.
