The Royal Court of Sweden has revealed the schedule for King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Golden Jubilee in September.
The jubilee week will begin on 12 September when the King opens the National Assembly. The following day, he will receive an official gift from the Riksdag (parliament) and Swedish government and host a reception at the Royal Palace (also known as Stockholm Palace).
Another set of jubilee receptions follows on 14 September at the Royal Palace, along with a performance by the Royal Opera at Drottningholm Palace’s Theatre for the 50th anniversary of the King’s accession to the throne. The King and Queen Silvia will host a private dinner at Drottningholm Palace that evening.
The big day is 15 September, when the country will mark His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee.
The day begins with a Te Deum with the Royal Family and guests at the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace; the King will later oversee the Changing of the Guard in the Outer Courtyard, and the Royal Family will appear on the balcony.
There will be a tribute to the King from singers and the Royal Academy of Music in the Outer Courtyard while the royals look on from the new balcony.
An anniversary banquet will be held in the Rikssalen of Stockholm Palace in the evening.
The last day of celebrations will be 16 September, when the King and Queen will travel in a horse-drawn carriage through Stockholm. The Royal Family will also be guests of honour at Norrbro when the city of Stockholm celebrates the jubilee.
Guests at the jubilee have not yet been announced, and further details on the Golden Jubilee will be revealed in due course.
