The Duke of Kent has been forced to miss the Remembrance Sunday commemorations at the Cenotaph due to ‘episodic mobility problems’.
Sources say the 88-year-old ‘reluctantly’ missed the event, having had no choice due to his mobility problems.
His Royal Highness was also forced to pull out of the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening.
At the Cenotaph on Sunday, the Duke’s equerry, Captain George Hopkins of the Scots Guards, laid a wreath on behalf of the Prince.
The Duke of Kent is a veteran himself, having graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a second lieutenant in the Royal Scots Greys.
From there, his military career would last for more than 20 years, being promoted to captain in July 1961.
In the years following, he served in Hong Kong and would serve on the staff of the Eastern Command.
He would continue to move in ranks and across the nation before he retired from the Army in 1976.
