The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla took place a year ago today.
Their Majesties were crowned on May 6th 2023 at Westminster Abbey.
Thousands of people were in the church for the ancient ceremony while millions more watched around the world as the Archbishop of Canterbury placed St. Edward’s Crown on the head of King Charles III.
The Prince of Wales paid homage to King Charles immediately after the crowning.
The Archbishop used a crown originally created for Queen Mary for the coronation of Queen Camilla.
The King and Queen later processed through Westminster Abbey to the sounds of the national anthem before being cheered back to Buckingham Palace in a carriage procession surrounded by the largest military parade seen in the UK for seventy years.
A balcony appearance followed.
The Coronation weekend also saw a special concert at Windsor Castle and a day of street parties and celebrations as people across Britain enjoyed the Big Coronation Lunch.
The Royal Family joined in many of the celebrations while monarchs, royalty and heads of state from around the world were present for the Coronation itself.
